At Peddie, Nick Coates ’50 GP’02 was a scholar and athlete, a member of the Cum Laude Society and a staff member on the yearbook and The Peddie News. He remembers Social Studies Department Chair Donald W. Rich ’32 as a particular influence. 

“He was a really interesting guy. He got me aware of what was going on in the world,” Nick said.

Today, Nick remains close to his alma mater and his classmates by serving as a class reunion chair and class secretary.

In 2002, in honor of his granddaughter Sara’s graduation from Peddie, Nick established the Nick Coates Jr. ’50 GP’02 and Sara K. Horn ’02 Faculty Support Fund to recognize the outstanding teachers who influenced them both, decades apart. All income from the fund supports the professional development and educational opportunities for full-time faculty.
